Design

Our PCB design capabilities consist of the general layout skills of MCU/MPU based mixed-signal systems, switched power supplies, as well as further advanced topics:

  • Implementation of high-speed DDR4, PCIe, or LVDS interfaces – controlled impedance, length matching, and other aspects.
  • HDI boards with blind and filled vias, rigid-flex boards, all designed in collaboration with the technology experts of our PCB suppliers.
We can provide complete system design from scratch or expand existing equipment with new features. When designing solutions, we draw on our experience in the following areas:
  • Mixed signal systems - a combination of analog and digital signals, typically found in embedded circuits with, for example, temperature and serial communication.
  • DC power delivery – from battery systems with very low currents (less than 1 mA) to power circuits in the tens of amps.
  • Base boards for NI sbRIO series single-board computers or FPGA modules from other manufacturers, including specialized interfaces for specific applications.
To verify basic functionality and detect any shortcomings of the chosen approach in a timely manner, we simulate most of our proposed circuits. The designs also include consistent library management with an up-to-date component base.

PCBA prototyping and production

We cooperate with a number of local suppliers who are able to manufacture the above-mentioned technologies in volumes ranging from initial prototypes to medium-sized production series of hundreds of units.

Our knowledge, skills, and workshop equipment enable us to perform small-scale PCB assembly and repairs directly on the company's premises, if the situation requires it.

Bring-up and measurements

Following the production and assembly of PCBs, our team performs the following activities:

  • systematic bring-up of assembled circuits to ensure the elimination of any initial design flaws,
  • appropriate characterization measurements confirming the main design parameters,
  • preliminary verification of compliance with applicable directives, which increases the certainty of meeting regulatory requirements (in cooperation with local testing laboratories).

Quality control

During the design process, we routinely use ECAD tools to set and check design rules at all stages of development. To ensure the integrity of source data, we also use standard approaches and techniques related to versioning systems, such as feature branches, merge requests, and design revision management.

Production testing support

In cases of already established projects for the production and assembly of printed circuit boards, we usually also prepare a production tester that is tailored to our customer's needs. We offer various solutions ranging from "hardware in the loop" with a needle adapter providing access to all signals on the PCB to "black box" testing, where only external system interfaces are used. Tests are usually instrumented either from Python using devices such as LabJack or BeagleBone. In more demanding cases, we use the NI LabVIEW development environment, including the implementation of a real-time software layer and FPGA on the cRIO platform to meet high speed and accuracy requirements.
